It’s just another average tag-team evening event in our household. My husband and I are trying to get the kids fed, clean and off to bed. Neither of us is very particular as to who does what, and we usually divide and conquer putting our toddler and baby to bed. Tonight I made an out-of-the-ordinary request to put the baby to bed. I felt I needed to. Tomorrow our sweet baby Nico, 9 months old, will have his first day at daycare. For me, tomorrow will be my first day back to work.

My 2-year-old son Luca loves story time before bed. It often starts with a negotiation about the number of books we are reading tonight. When I can bring him down from ten to about three books, we dive into characters, voices, actions and quite the giggle fits. One of today’s books had a picture of an adult duck with some ducklings. Luca immediately called it a mommy duck with her baby duckies. There was no mention of a mommy in the story so where did this idea come from? We made this trip into a 4-day get-away with our son and my brother.

Frank and Norm's gestational carrier was the one to let the dads-to-be know the gender of their unborn child. We love the fun and memorable way she and her family shared this news with them.

My work shift ended five minutes ago and I’m racing down the back roads towards my son’s daycare center filled with feelings of guilt and anxiety. Today was my first day back to work and Luca’s first day at daycare, a full day without daddy or papa or anyone familiar to him. What have I done?
