Antwon and Nate On Their First Year As Foster Dads

"Whether she stays or not," say new foster dads Antwon and Nate, "we'll never be the same."

We have had our foster daughter for over a year, and everyday brings different challenges and victories. The biggest challenge has been the uncertainty of knowing if she will stay with us or not. It brings the back and forth of both emotionally trying to self-preserve and wanting to fight to have her be ours.

The victories are endless. She knows we are her people, and she's our little girl. I think about going back to the way things were, but it's impossible. Because whether she stays or not, we'll never be the same.

"We Got A Kid!" A Year-Long Foster Care Journey Comes to an End

Antwon and Nate became licensed foster dads on a Tuesday; Wednesday they received a call; and by Thursday they were dads to a little girl.

Over the past year, husbands and dads-to-be Antwon and Nate have been sharing their journey as foster dads-in-training. They began with an announcement in March last year; then in their May video, they discussed the various classes and training they were doing in order to become licensed foster parents. But by December, just days before becoming licensed, the couple opened up about how long the process had felt, and how they were just waiting to finalize their license and then receive the call.
