It's that time of the year when families are doing their annual photo shoot, and in some cases, for the obligatory holiday card. We spotted these photos of Nick and Chris with their daughter Ari on Instagram, and immediately got all the feels!
Nick and Chris adopted Ari in December 2016 after a long adoption journey. They started as licensed foster-adopt parents, but when 2 years of radio silence went by, they reassessed, created an adoption book and sent it to a few agencies. Their first match fell through when the birth mother changed her mind in her third trimester. The two men were devastated, but they decided to try again. That's when they were connected with Ari's birth mother. The dads travelled to Jacksonville, Florida to be there for the birth, and 48 hours later, the open adoption papers were signed. (Read their story and learn about their first few weeks as parents here.)
Today, this Chicago family are thriving and looking toward Ari's first birthday.
"We feel like we just blinked and our little girl is about to turn 1," said Nick. "It has been so incredible seeing her personality really starting to come out lately, and definitely keeps us on our toes now that she is on the move."
"We are blessed beyond words and just want to soak up all these tiny moments that make up this journey," said Chris.
