Pete and Chasten become dads

Pete and Chasten Buttigieg "Overjoyed" To Become Parents

Congratulations to Pete and Chasten Buttigieg, who have announced they are officially parents!

U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg told the world Tuesday on social media that the couple have become parents, but he said the process is not quite finished yet.

"We're overjoyed to share that we've become parents!" Buttigieg said. "The process isn't done yet and we're thankful for the love, support and respect for our privacy that has been offered to us. We can't wait to share more soon."

It's unclear how the couple have formed their family, or whether their child is with them yet — stay tuned, we'll bring you more as the story unfolds.

Last year, the Washington Post revealed the former Mayor of South Bend, Indiana and his husband had been trying to adopt for a while.

“It’s a really weird cycle of anger and frustration and hope,” Chasten told the paper. “You think it’s finally happening and you get so excited, and then it’s gone.”

A few days before the Washington Post article was published, Hillbilly Elegy author J.D. Vance said Democratic leaders without children don't have a "physical commitment to the future of this country."

Chasten hit back on Twitter, saying that “bringing a child into this world can be a long, difficult, and often heartbreaking process for any family. Shame on [Vance] for this tactless take. As a father, he should know better. As a wannabe Senator, it's clear that empathy isn't his strong suit." Chasten added that not having kids “doesn’t make you any less American.”
