Ryan, 36, and Marcin, 34, live in Houston, Texas and have been together for five years. They were married in 2013 and adopted their son Liam as a newborn in 2015. Both Ryan (Tata) and Marcin (Daddy) always wanted kids. Get to know Ryan and Marcin a little better as part of our Meet Gay Dads series.
Gays With Kids: We love a good love story. How did you two meet?
Ryan: We met on an online dating website (Chemistry.com). From our first date, we talked honestly about our desire to become fathers, although at the time we weren't sure how that would happen!
Gays With Kids: Please share why you chose your particular path to fatherhood.
Ryan: We were introduced to an open adoption agency at Houston's Gay Pride Parade and knew this was how we'd make our dreams a reality. After being "live" for about 9 months, our son's amazing birth mother found us in January 2015 via Facebook and we instantly clicked with her and her family. In February, we traveled to Colorado to meet them and returned in May to witness the miracle of Liam's birth.
Gays With Kids: What do you consider to be the most important lesson you are teaching your child?
Ryan: Unconditional love.
Gays With Kids: Please share any advice you may have for others considering a similar path to fatherhood.
Ryan: No matter how difficult or emotionally exhausting the journey becomes, never ever ever give up. Even though it doesn't always seem like it, when the time is right your baby will come to you.
Gays With Kids: Is there anything else you'd like to share about your experiences creating or raising your family?
Ryan: Witnessing our son’s birth was a life-changing moment. Being dads is the most important role of our lives. We love and treasure every second of it.
