Read the Q and A with Jason and Anthony below. (Here and there, the answers have been edited for clarity.)
Gays With Kids: We love a good love story. How did you two meet?
We met on a phone chat line (since this was before the days of apps) and have been together ever since.
Gays With Kids: Why did you choose foster to adopt as your particular path to fatherhood?
In 2013 we started discussing creating a family. We were both excited to begin the process. Because of Alec Mapa’s rave reviews in his stand-up show at the Los Angeles LGBT Center, we contacted Southern California Foster Family and Adoption Agency. In May 2014, we opened our home and hearts to a 3-year-old boy named Marcelino. After we fostered for him for six months (the agency requirement before you are allowed to start the adoption process), we began the process of petitioning the courts for custody. On March 17, 2015, our forever family was complete.
Gays With Kids: Please share any advice you may have for others considering a similar path to fatherhood.
Be sure that you are aware of all that it takes to be an adoptive parent!
Gays With Kids: Did you always want kids, and if you did not always want kids, what happened to change your mind?
We always did.
