Meet Gay Dads: Alfredo and Mitchell with Jasper

Alfredo and Mitchell met in 2011 through friends and at first became just friends, but soon the nature of their friendship began to change: They fell in love. After three years together the young couple decided to get married. Their wedding took place on March 15, 2014, in a beautiful ceremony at the Omni Dallas Hotel at Park West. In November 2014, they were married again in Oklahoma, this time by law.

Gays With Kids: How did you create your family?

Alfredo: Adoption. The first time we tried, it failed so we almost gave up the thought for the time and worked on our lives. But then, out of the blue we were blessed with an amazing baby boy, Jasper Ray Hernandez. He has been a true blessing; he brings so much joy to our family! He was born on November 13, 2015. He's a happy baby.

Gays With Kids: What do you consider to be the most important lesson you are teaching your son?

Alfredo: The truth about life and the many opportunities it will bring.

Gays With Kids: Please share any advice you may have for others considering a similar path to fatherhood.

Alfredo: Be patient!

Gays With Kids: Did you always want kids?

Alfredo: Yes.

Gays With Kids: What names will your son call you and your husband?

Alfredo: I am Dad and Mitchell is Daddy.
