Congratulations to actors Kyle Dean Massey and Taylor Frey, who announced they’re expecting their first child via surrogacy later this year.
Massey, best known for his leading roles in Broadway musicals like Wicked and Next to Normal, told the world on Instagram in late April how the couple reached their dad-dreams.
“We’re pregnant!!!” Massey posted. “We are excited beyond measure to make this announcement. We couldn’t have done this without the incredible team of people who gave us so much to make this dream a reality: our physicians, attorneys and most especially our fabulous egg donor and amazing surrogate.”
Massey and Frey, best known for playing Don Hagerty in It Chapter Two, tied the knot in 2016 and currently live in Palm Springs, California.
According to People, 39-year-old Massey, who most recently played an openly gay singer-songwriter on Nashville, said he’s excited to be able to have a baby, because he didn’t always think it was possible for him.
“Knowing from a young age that I didn't fit the typical mold, the opportunity to become a parent is something I had put out of my head for a long time," he said. "But now, I'm excited to be an example of what a new-American family can look like."
31-year-old Frey told People that he’s incredibly grateful to those who made it possible for them as a gay couple to have a biological child.
“I think for a long time as a gay guy I told myself that kids aren't what I wanted because it didn't seem attainable,” Frey said. “I am just grateful for modern medicine, but even more so for generous women who sign up to help couples like us. We are so lucky."
During his announcement on Instagram, under a photo of the couple wearing matching “Dad” shirts, Frey revealed the baby’s name.
“To say we are excited and overwhelmed with gratitude for generous women who are willing to help us become fathers is an understatement. I can’t wait to meet you Rafa.”
