What a couple of years it's been for us! When our daughter Talulah was born via UK surrogacy back in October 2016, we decided to take to Instagram and Facebook to document the parental highs and lows. Little did we expect for it to be where it is now. We always had the ambition to help other intended fathers understand more about surrogacy, and we also had the added driver to do our best to influence others – help open some of the closed minds with regards to same-sex parenting.
Here we are now, pregnant again with our son which we revealed Live on Facebook! We're due in August, we're now writing several blogs, social media influencers and launching a new business focusing on our main mission to support others and being advocates for UK surrogacy. It's no wonder we're shattered!
We're about to support Fertility Fest 2019, the world's first arts festival dedicated to fertility, infertility, the science of making babies and modern families. I can't begin to tell you how proud we are to be supporting and taking to the stage for such an amazing cause. The event runs from the 23rd April to the 12th May at the iconic Barbican in the heart of London.
We were approached by one of the organisers, author and creative director Jessica Hepburn, after she heard me (Michael) presenting at a conference in the summer of 2018 for healthcare professionals. I was educating nurses and other healthcare professionals about the life of two dads, and how it can sometimes be a struggle to maneuverer around the UK healthcare system. She saw my passion and we began talking and I'm so happy that we're now friends, both sharing a similar passion – to speak up, and make change.
The event's outline
Our blog TwoDads.U.K are proud partners to The Queer Family event taking place on the 24th April, which supports and celebrates the queer family it all its forms. It's set to be a great evening. Film-maker Emma Edwards (Inkydink Pictures) presents her award-winning short film "Altruistic" which follows the journey of the first gay male couple to become legal parents through surrogacy in the UK. Best-selling "Human Book" author Dimple Devadas will be telling the remarkable story of her rainbow family made through the gift of sperm donation. And finally Cabaret-artist Jamie Anderson ends the performances with an extract from his new show about becoming a father for the first time as a gay man.
Then on Friday 3rd May Fertility Fest hosts its Big Fat Festival Day, which is a packed full day of activities with an amazing line up of different artists and fertility experts. We're taking to the stage where four others talk about a chosen topic which ignites their passion. Ours is cheekily titled "Who's the Daddy?" – and its going to be being broadcast via Facebook Live. Check out the link here.
And just when we thought we couldn't get any busier we've launched our first UK Surrogacy Information event, titled "Your Route to Fatherhood" to be held at the stunning Somerset House in central London.
We have partnered with a London based fertility clinic with an excellent surrogacy programme, CRGH whom we've experienced first-hand their excellent results. We have a selection of inspirational speakers and healthcare professionals taking to the stage to talk about Surrogacy in the UK, we hope to replicate the events around the UK. We've had to issue a greater allocation of tickets due to the overwhelming support received, so we're so excited to be supporting our community and can't wait for the 27th. Thank you so much to all that have supported us over the last 2 years and we look forward seeing what the future holds…watch this space.
