What Are The Requirements To Become An Egg Donor?

What requirements make an eligible egg donor?

Dr. Daniel Skora, Fertility Specialists of Texas the requirements needed to be met by potential egg donors.

Do egg donor requirements vary state by state?

You will find over the whole country, egg donor requirements are normally about the same. Generally, IVF clinics want women who are under the age of 30, have regular cycles when they're not on birth control pills, have no medical history, a healthy BMI, have no problems in the past medically or surgically, have no family history of any diseases that can be passed on genetically. We want them to be in excellent health and not be smokers.

What kind of screening do egg donors go through?

Most if not all IVF clinics do genetic screening on all of their egg donors, as well as an AMH ( anti-mullerian hormone), which tells them overall how many eggs the donor might have in their ovaries. For internal egg donors, it is preferred if they live within driving distance of the center. This lowers costs for the dads-to-be, as you don't have to pay for transportation for those egg donors.

Why must donors meet such specific requirements?

Donor requirements are needed for your egg donor for multiple reasons. The first is FDA clearance, the Federal Drug Administration tells the clinics that they must screen all of their egg donors for certain sexually transmitted infections. This allows them to be sure that when they're transferring this tissue into another person, they're doing so safely. Medical history requirements  are checked, as well as surgical history and habits that the egg donor has. All of these requirements are put in place to provide for you the highest chance of a pregnancy in the end. By removing difficulties from an egg donor's profile it makes it most likely that they will be successful in doing an egg donation and giving you a child at the end of the process.
