Gay Dads Featured in New AT&T Ad

AT&T is the latest company to feature gay dads in their advertising so far this year!

I hope this becomes the norm that we regularly see brand advertising featuring gay dads. And I hope it becomes so much the norm that I don't feel compelled to write about it anymore!

We're getting there, little by little.

Mega-brand AT&T just released a short video/commercial that features two protective dads making sure that their babysitter is equipped to take care of their children. What strikes me most about this spot is the normalcy. These are simply two normal parents, regardless of gender, who are making sure their children will be properly watched. No stereotypes, no big messaging, no big deal. Just two men being protective parents.

"I Got Milk" Has Now Got Gay Dads

"Milk" just released a new campaign featuring real families, including gay dads.

The original "Got Milk?" campaign that launched in 1993 has gone down in marketing history as one of the most successful programs in branding. After the initial launch of a classic tv commercial that introduced the concept, the campaign later centered around celebrity spokespeople wearing a milk mustache. In the world of marketing, the longevity of the campaign is indeed one for the record books.

Well now it looks like "Got Milk?" is getting a bit more real with a new campaign featuring real life moments with a variety of families, sans any celebrities.

In the campaign, we see families of all types, including gay dads. Gay dads! No single type of family is singled out, which I think adds to the power of the messaging. By normalizing all different kinds of families, the "brand" is showing inclusion and reality.

And for that I say thank you to milk!

Gay Dads Featured in Commercial for Australian Apparel Brand,  Sportscraft

Just in time for Father's Day in Australia this year, and local apparel brand Sportcraft is honoring all kinds of fathers with this new inclusive commercial.

I just love this new campaign from Australian apparel brand, Sportscraft. Father's Day in Australia was September 2nd this year, so the brand is seeking to honor real fathers…real fathers who wear Sportcraft clothes!

But that's not what I love about the campaign, although I have to say that the clothes are quite the rage IMHO. What I love is how the brand celebrates fathers of all kinds…single, married, and yes gay.

The best part is that the brand doesn't oversell the concept, even though they are selling the clothes. No one gets a label, except for the clothes. These are just dads being dads, and on the Sportscraft website you can read, see, and hear what makes each of them special. And it's not because they're single, married, or gay. It's just because they're dads.

New Dads Tom Daley and Dustin Lance Black Become Brand Ambassador for Pampers!

The famous gay dads took to Instagram to announce their exciting partnership with Pampers

This week, Olympic diver Tom Daley and filmmaker Dustin Lance Black, who are new dads to Robbie Ray this past summer via surrogacy, took to Instagram to announce an exciting development: they will be serving as the latest brand ambassadors for Pampers.

"Since Robbie came into our lives, we've become much more picky about stuff we buy and use," Daley wrote to his 2 million followers on Instagram. "When it comes to Robbie, there's no compromise, which is why I've chosen to partner with @PampersUK_IRE."

Dustin Lance Black, for his part, wrote to his 331,000 followers: "I'm so pleased to be working alongside @TomDaley with @PampersUK_IRE for the launch of their new Pure Protection nappies and wipes."

Whether or not Pampers is your preferred diaper and wipe brand, we here at Gays With Kids commend the company for partnering with these two inspiring gay dads. After announcing they were expecting a son via surrogacy on their respective Instagram accounts earlier this year, the famous couple were subjected to a prejudiced backlash at the hands of conservative commenters online.

Pampers, in taking on the gay dads as brand ambassadors, is opening themselves up to the same type of rightwing trolling. But clearly the brand recognizes that advocating for equality for LGBTQ families is not only a smart business move, it's also just the right thing to do.

In an interview with Metro.co.uk, the dads commended the brand for recognizing the importance of including the experience of LGBTQ parents in its advertising.

"It was one of those interesting things where they called us, and first of all – it's absolutely amazing that they called us, a same-sex family," said Tom Daley. "There was something really incredible about that. But not only that, it's wanting what's best for your baby, and that's why we trust Pampers and their Pure products."

Dustin Lance Black added, "It's opening a window to what our family looks like, and I think at the end of the day, it will be clear that we have the same concerns as every other family. 'You've got to feed them, you've got to change the diapers, you've got to love them. And I was really moved that they asked."
