Donning novelty "Oh Baby" gold glasses and wearing matching "Daddy to Be" saches, Olympic diver Tom Daley and writer and director Lance Black celebrated at their surprise baby shower in London on Saturday, April 21. With beautiful balloons, confetti, and novelty baby bottle drinkware, the dads-to-be ushered in their new stage of life with fun and excitement. And we're so excited for them!
The husbands, who began dating in 2013 and were married in May 2017, announced their pregnancy news via Instagram in February 14 this year. Daley, who is 23 years old, documented the party via his Instagram Stories, sharing photos of rainbow fruit skewers, and eccentric themed decorations such as a toy baby in a baby bath.
The 43-year-old Oscar winner Black shared a photo of the delicious spread put on by friends in honor of the two dads-to-be.
Daley recently won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in Australia and as soon as he returned, he made an impassioned speech about LGBTQ rights across the Commonwealth at the Commonwealth summit in London. He spoke with the BBC and explained that his reason for speaking out was his impending fatherhood.
"The way you think about the world changes so dramatically," said Daley. "I went for lunch with my husband and I was sitting there with a gold medal at the Commonwealth games and I thought how lucky am I to be sitting with my husband after winning a competition and not being worried about any ramifications or someone being able to throw me in prison."
The dads-to-be are expecting a boy and they've been working on the nursery, reading books in preparation and feeling the excitement grow. But above all, Daley and Black want the best for their son, as Daley elaborated on in his interview with the BBC.
"You want your child to grow up having an equal opportunity as everyone else that is born, whether they're gay, straight, male, female, whatever religion you are, whatever ethnicity you are," said Daley.
We couldn't agree more.
