Last year on Valentine's Day, the gay fairytale Promised Land was released, showing the world that everyone, including LGBTQI youth, can have their Happily Ever After. Now, the beloved book is also a delightful 'Read Aloud' video on YouTube.
Since the book's release in 2017, it has caught the attention of BuzzFeed, Upworthy, and Teen Vogue; even Sir Ian McKellen has shared his support and praised the book's message, saying, "From every point-of-view, including artistically, it's a beautiful book."
The co-authors, Adam Reynolds and Chaz Harris, want their story of love and acceptance to been seen by all. "Visibility and representation in storytelling is so important right now, especially for young people, because if we don't see ourselves in stories, we don't see ourselves in the world," said Chaz Harris.
"We wrote the kind of book we needed when we were growing up, because love is love and everyone deserves to live happily ever after," added co-author Adam Reynolds.
In both the video and book, the illustrations were created by the talented Christine Luiten and Bo Moore. The video is accompanied by a fully scored audiobook narrated by award-winning actress Geraldine Brophy with a soundtrack by Tane Upjohn-Beatson.
And what do our littlest critics think of the both the book and the video? It's a hit! Brian and Ferd's daughter Sadie said, "I like it when the two good guys get together - that was nice! It reminds me of me and Ethan (my best friend) and also of my daddy and papa." And big brother Levi also had a thing or two to say: "I really like the story and give it "double thumbs up." There were sad and happy parts, and the wedding was like my Daddy and Papa's."
So there you have it, straight from the mouth of babes. The book is available for purchase on Amazon, and keep an eye out for their next book, Maiden Voyage, a followup love story featuring two lesbian main characters, available for pre-order through their store.
