When our birth photo went viral, we did not expect all the attention the picture garnered, positive and negative. Our photo went viral a second time around when it was being used negatively by politicians in Europe to support their cause of everything we do not represent. We wanted to use this opportunity to take this negative situation and turn it into something positive.
The photo that went viral: BJ and Frankie with Milo. (Photo credit: Lindsay Foster)
Told from Milo’s perspective, “Milo’s Adventures” is a story of surrogacy, love and becoming a family. The hoping, waiting, excitement, and love are universal experiences of a loving family but Milo’s story is unique as he has two daddies, a surrogate and a whole world who celebrates his birth on World Pride Weekend. His birth photo made a huge impact on the world and on our lives. We never expected the photo would be shared around the world and help raise awareness around surrogacy and gay parenting especially at such a critical time for LGBTQ rights. We hope that in the not so distant future, when Milo looks back on this photo and all the attention, he would wonder what all the fuss was all about.
Over the past couple of years we have received messages from people all around the world and had requests to do interviews to discuss our journey and about surrogacy in Canada. We have also created a website to show everyone that every family is created different, but the one thing that they all have in common is LOVE. We hope that this story helps everyone understand that family is about love!
