Fatherhood Gives 'Million Dollar Listing' Star New Lease on Life

Reality star Fredrick Eklund and his husband Derek Kaplan are loving being dads, and have the Instagram pics to prove it.

On November 28, 2017, reality TV star and NY real estate broker Fredrick Eklund and his husband artist Derek Kaplan welcomed twins, Fredrick and Milla, via surrogacy. It was a dream come true for the dads.

It had not been an easy road for Eklund and Kaplan. They had spoken publicly about their struggles to find an egg donor and the experiences of two miscarriages. But on August 10, 2017, they announced via Instagram that they were expecting.

"We've been blessed two times over - we're six months pregnant with twins, a boy and a girl! It was important for us to take the time to keep the news for ourselves, but now we are ready to celebrate all the love. We thank you for supporting us in this journey and your well wishes.... We are finally going to be dads! Finally! #grateful 👨👨👧👦"

Since Frederick and Milla were born, the dads have been sharing photos of their happy and loving family. And if you can't tell, Eklund and Kaplan are absolutely smitten with their twins and thoroughly loving fatherhood.

Surrogacy for Gay Men

A Dream Becomes Reality, After a Men Having Babies Conference

New Yorkers David and Brian said their dreams of fatherhood crystalized only after receiving a "ton of information" at a Men Having Babies conference.

New Yorkers David F.M. Vaughn 39, and Brian Becker, 37, are new dads. Over the past three months, the two most important things they've learned as fathers is "patience, and how to swaddle LIKE A CHAMP!" David and Brian chose surrogacy as their path to fatherhood, but making that decision was one of the more difficult parts of their journey. Brian's siblings are adopted, and while they still want to make adoption part of their family journey, certain opportunities arose that made their surrogacy decision easier. Brian's sister enthusiastically offered to be their gestational surrogate, and they discovered more about the process with the help of Men Having Babies (MHB).

But let's jump back to the beginning of their story.

How Northwest Surrogacy Center Became a Top Choice for Gay Parents

Learn how John Chally and Sandra Hodgson turned Northwest Surrogacy Center into a leading choice for gay men pursuing surrogacy!

In 2001, Tabitha Koh was mid-interview for an office manager and bookkeeper position at Northwest Surrogacy Center (NWSC) when the agency's co-founders, John Chally and Sandra Hodgson, took a moment to get serious with her.

"They informed me that the agency works with a lot of diverse families, including a lot of gay ones," Tabitha recalled. So it would be extremely important, John and Sandra stressed, that Tabitha display a high level of comfort with and acceptance of LGBTQ families."I assured them it wouldn't be an issue," Tabitha laughed, who lives with her wife and two kids in Portland, and now works as the agency's Director of Legal Services.

It's a funny anecdote the trio now fondly laughs about today — but it also underscores how carefully NWSC has sought to earn its reputation as one of the most LGBTQ-friendly surrogacy agencies in the country.

"From the beginning, we've believed that it doesn't matter who you are, gay, straight or whatever, you should be able to build the family that you want," John said.
