On Tuesday of this week, we were treated to — or more like subjected to — the first of three debates between President Donald Trump and his Democratic challenger, Joe Biden. Typically, we would have written a piece following the debate to see what sort of policy proposals were discussed, particularly any that might have a direct impact of LGBTQ families.
What we got instead was unintelligible gibberish — truly, our pre-schoolers have had more meaningful debates. So today, we're bringing you some of our favorite reactions by gay dads on Twitter. Enjoy our round-up below, and here's hoping for a more substantive conversation in future debates.
The best part about the debates is watching @maddow, @JoyAnnReid & @NicolleDWallace discuss what the heck just happened on that stage. #Debate2020 #Vote

Wow. @realDonaldTrump was asked to condemn White Supremacy.

He refused to do that.
This is not an attack in White people.
He was asked to condemn White SUPREMACY.
He refused.#PresidentialDebate #2020debate #debate

Trump is gunna drag this whole country and all we have ever had into the trash heap that he is. America. Fix this.#Debate2020
I’m being triggered. Biden’s chuckles are exactly the same response tactic Hillary took. It didn’t work then. It’s not working now. Call this bully out. Wallace won’t. You don’t chuckle away this behavior and try to appeal to audience reason. You address the chump head on.

I normally do a poll after the debates to ask people who they think won, but honestly, what’s the point doing that tonight? Trump crashed and burned. 🤣 #Debatenight #Debate2020 pic.twitter.com/m9SYumnR13

Quote of the night ... Anderson Cooper’s first words after the debate: “we don’t deserve this”

Just a reminder to the gays that Dorothy and Toto would be voting for Biden. Not the Wicked Witch of the West Wing.

The way Trump wins The White House again is by suppressing the vote of moderates, so his base can carry the day. His debate/election strategy is about making these ordinary folk feel politics is just such a mess that they can't be bothered to vote. #DeterringDemocracy
