Congrats New Gay Dad James
For James, becoming a dad has changed his life. “I have never made a better decision,” said James. “It’s been an amazing experience [and] I’ve never been happier.” James is the proud dad of identical twin girls, Robyn and Erica, born February 20, 2016.
Twins Erica and Robyn
James lives in Norwich, United Kingdom, and is a manager for the insurance company Aviva. He always wanted to be a dad, and he began his journey to fatherhood exploring ways to have children as a single man. Through his research he found PrideAngel, a site for connecting gay, lesbian and infertile couples so they can achieve their dreams of being parents. Through PrideAngel James met a lesbian couple with whom he bonded. After several months of getting to know each other, they decided to move forward with their dream and become co-parents. On the first attempt to conceive they got pregnant with twins!
James met David after the co-parenting trio knew they were pregnant. James said it was rather a strange conversation to explain his impending fatherhood, but David couldn’t have been more supportive. The moms were also excited by the idea that their daughters would have another person to love them.
The girls and their moms live a couple of hours away from James, but close enough to visit regularly. He looks forward to more frequent visits, and overnight stays, once his daughters are no longer breastfed. “The girls love me coming over and being involved as much as possible,” said James about his daughters’ moms.
“It's a perfect arrangement for me as at the time I was single and working full-time; I get the best of both worlds and I've helped [an] amazing loving couple,” shared James. “My family loves the girls and we all get on and are one big extended happy family.”
One piece of advice from James for other gay men considering a co-parenting relationship: get to the know the couple you’re planning to co-parent with very well before starting your family.
“Juggling career, twins and boyfriend is hard but I knew what I was getting into and I'm so happy. It's the best decision I've ever made and I love my daughters with all my heart .”
